The nature of the use of unmanned aerial systems (UASs) on the battlefield has evolved a lot over the last few decades. The theatre in Ukraine especially has seen rapid technological developments in the capabilities and use of small, attritable UASs, allowing these systems to carry out a wide spectrum of functions and even to act in symbiosis to enhance their sensor and weapon range. In this e-Note, we look at these recent developments as well as at the evolving techniques of electronic warfare to counter them.
